Losergeek.org, Jakarta – US President Joe Biden on Wednesday, August 16, congratulated President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Indonesian citizens on the country’s 78th Independence Day celebration that falls every August 17.
“On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend our heartfelt wishes to you and the people of Indonesia as you celebrate 78 years of independence,” Biden said in the release published by the US Embassy in Jakarta.
In his statement, Biden recalled the Indonesia-US strategic partnership advancing the mutual democratic principles upheld by both countries and the security and prosperity of their people. Indonesia and the US, he went on, promoted a bright and resilient future in a free and open Indo-Pacific.
Indonesia and the US have cooperated to face global challenges such as climate change, and environmental protection, and boost the people-to-people ties that form the basis of the Indonesia-US partnership. The US also commends Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship and supports the ASEAN 2023 theme of “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”.
“I look forward to further deepening and expanding our cooperation and friendship in the year ahead. Congratulations on this joyous Indonesian Independence Day,” said Biden.
The volume of trade between the countries reached US$27.5 billion in 2022, rising by 20.1% compared to the same period in 2021. Both countries are planning to boost their trade value up to US$60 billion in the years ahead.
